Music
Living to learn, learning to live.
We have designed a vocabulary rich curriculum that connects learning by building an understanding of ideas, concepts, chronology and themes through the framework of ‘here, there and then, now, next’. These thinking threads link learning meaningfully to create opportunities to learn from the past and present as well as equipping children for an ever-changing and exciting future.
We explore rhythms and melodies here and now, learning from musical traditions there and then, and developing the creativity to compose and perform confidently next.
Music Curriculum Intent
Pupils are given the opportunity to develop a love and appreciation of a range of music through listening, evaluating and in turn creating, composing and performing using instruments and voices. Knowledge and understanding of the structure and notation of music is taught in a way which allows this to be applied to their own individual and group creations.
Our delivery of music follows the National Curriculum and uses Kapow as a scheme of learning. The scheme provides many examples of music styles and genres from different times and places. We aim to provide opportunities for children to learn to play musical instruments, with options available to build on these with additional instrumental lessons in school time (privately or in small groups), including financial support for Pupil Premium children.
Our music curriculum is further embedded through opportunities to experience live performances, regular singing assemblies and our whole-school Christmas production.
