Welcome to Smart Zone.
Hello and welcome to Smart Zone class 2023/2024!
Reading is a lifelong skill that we try to develop as your child continues their journey through our school. We are keen to develop a love of books and escapism as early as possible, which is why we are introducing ‘Accelerator Reader’ this year. We would greatly appreciate your support with this new initiative, not only by listening to your child read but by perhaps sharing some of your favourite books from your childhood with them too.
Guided Reading
This term’s class reader is ‘The Great Chocoplot’ written by Chris Callaghan.
It’s the end of chocolate – forever! At least, until Jelly can solve the mystery of the great chocoplot….
‘With an excellent cast of characters, laugh-out-loud moments, and witty and sharp observations, this is a great choice for fans of Dahl and Walliams.’ THE GUARDIAN
‘A funny choccy caper that will have you laughing out loud!’ WRD MAGAZINE
‘This wonderful Roald Dahlian adventure presents an assortment box of hilarious and eccentric characters that will be devoured by little chocolate lovers everywhere.’ SOUTH WALES EVENING POST
Jelly and her family live in Chompton-on-de-Lyte, where everyone loves a Chocablocka bar or two – so when the end of chocolate is announced, she can’t believe it.
Determined to investigate, Jelly and her gran follow a trail of clues to a posh chocolate shop and its owner, the pompous Garibaldi Chocolati. Gari’s suspiciously smug, despite his failing business and yucky chocolate.
Is it really the chocopocalypse, or is there a chocoplot afoot?
- An exciting, laugh-out-loud funny adventure for children aged 7 and up
- Readers will relish the terrifying premise: what if all chocolate was to disappear?
- Features illustrations by Lalalimola
- Stars a truly ghastly villain – think evil mastermind meets Willy Wonka! – and a down-to-earth heroine with a sidekick grandma
Spellings
Spellings to learn at home will be sent out on Mondays and the children will be tested on the Friday of the same week. At year 4, pupils must be able to spell the Y1/2 words and the majority of the Y3/4 words to be awarded ‘Working At’ Age Related Expectations. Working on these at home will really support the work we are doing in school. A copy of these can be found below.
P.E.
Our PE days our Wednesday and Thursday. Please send your child to school in their PE kits on these days.
